Health Insurance
ICICI Lombard
ICICI Lombard is a joint venture between India's ICICI Bank and Canada's Fairfax Holdings. It's one of the largest general insurance companies in India with products across motor, travel, home, and health, property insurances. It offers health insurance with sum insured of upto 50 lacs.
ICICI Lombard Health insurance plans
iHealth
iHealth is a very good policy and it also priced quite reasonably. It covers most bases. It doesn't have any unsavoury conditions and it offers decent benefits. All in all, a pretty solid pick for insurance.
Health Booster Super Top-up
The best Super Top Up plan there is, period. No restrictions on the kind of rooms you can pick. No egregious conditions and the plan allows you to top up your base policy by a maximum of 50 lakhs. Unfortunately, it is let down by ICICI's poor claim settlement ratio.
Health Elite Plus
Health Elite Plus Complete Health Insurance by ICICI Lombard provides global coverage, unlimited teleconsultations, and add-ons like sum insured protector (an inflation shield for your sum insured), claim protector (coverage for medical items used during hospitalisation), and BeFit cover. However, unlike other more comprehensive plans, it also has restrictions on room rent and sub-limits on certain treatments. So that’s something you should consider.
Max Protect Classic
ICICI Lombard Max Protect Classic is a pretty comprehensive plan for the most part. It offers unlimited restoration, a loyalty bonus of 20% of the Sum Insured every year (up to 100% of the original cover) and most things you expect in a good plan. The only downsides are that the plan imposes room rent restrictions (Single Private Room) and ICICI Lombard as an insurer has had pretty poor claim settlement numbers of late. So that’s something you should consider while buying the plan.
Health Shield 360 Retail
ICICI Lombard's Health Shield 360 Retail is a solid plan on paper. It has short waiting periods (1-2 years) for pre-existing conditions. It extends coverage of up to ₹3 crores. It offers OPD benefits, and add-ons like sum insured protector (an inflation shield for your sum insured) and claim protector (coverage for medical items used during hospitalisation). However, ICICI Lombard's low claim settlement ratio is something that will worry customers and we aren’t sure we would actively recommend this plan.
Elevate
ICICI Lombard Elevate is a decent pick, which, while basic, offers quite a list of lucrative features. Apart from the standard perks, the policy has a special benefit —coverage for surrogate mother and Oocyte donor expenses up to ₹5 lakhs. The drawbacks of the plan exist, but they are not extensive—room rent restriction up to a single private room and a measly loyalty bonus of 20% to 100%. Unfortunately, the real hurdle here is the reputation and credibility of ICICI Lombard as a healthy insurance provider.
iHealth Plus
iHealth Plus is a great policy. It covers most bases. It doesn't have any unsavoury conditions. It offers coverage for maternity related expenses and they will reimburse you for expenses incurred during outpatient consultations (upto a certain limit). The only downside is that it is quite expensive.
Golden Shield
ICICI Lombard Golden Shield is a policy that is specifically crafted for senior citizens (56 years & above). While the policy offers a great perk in the form of a reduced waiting period of 2 years for those with pre-existing medical conditions, it doesn’t have a lot more to offer. Rather, with a mandatory copayment of 50%, a room rent restriction, and a low No-Claim Bonus - the plan might not exactly be the best choice for senior citizens.
Max Protect Premium
ICICI Lombard Max Protect Premium is a premium plan targeted at people looking to cover international treatments. It offers coverage of up to 3 Crores and offers a loyalty bonus of 20% of the Sum Insured every year (up to 100% of the original cover). In many ways it is a comprehensive plan, however, it does impose room rent restrictions forcing you to stay in a single private room and nothing fancy. But perhaps the biggest issue with the plan is that ICICI Lombard as an insurer has had pretty poor claim settlement numbers of late. So that’s something you should consider while buying the plan.
Health Shield 360
ICICI Lombard Health Shield 360 is a group plan for bank account holders and customers. And like most group plans, you get comprehensive coverage, practically no waiting periods (except a 30-day pre-existing disease waiting period), and other add-ons like OPD and maternity at extremely affordable prices. The only downside is that it is a group plan. And with group plans, you are always at the mercy of the master policyholder i.e. the bank who can forego the arrangement with the insurance company at any point.
Health AdvantEdge
ICICI LOMBARD Health Advantage is a plan built for people looking to cover outpatient consultations and expenses. It covers a bunch of OPD treatments, includes a critical illness rider and extends some protection for maternity expenses. If you’re looking for a plan that offers coverage for outpatient consultations, this could be a decent choice. However, ICICI Lombard’s claim settlement ratio is less than desirable and this is something you should keep in mind.
ICICI Lombard Health insurance claim process
ICICI Lombard claims can be of different types based on the hospital in which you are getting the treatment. If it’s part of ICICI Lombard's network hospitals, you can get a “Cashless claim” in which insurance company directly pays the bills to the hospital. But if your choice of hospital is not part of their network, then you have to pay the bills and apply for reimbursement claim. Here’s a brief process for both types of claims:
Cashless Claims
Inform the Hospital Desk
All network hospitals have an insurance desk. You can submit your policy copy (even soft copy works), ID proof, initial diagnosis report and the insurance desk will request the insurance company for “pre-authorization”. In case of planned treatments, you need to do this process 2 days before hospitalization
Insurer’s decision
Based on the provided documents, insurance company approve the claim and the hospital will start the treatment and they will co-ordinate with insurer for the treatment costs. In case of Cashless claim rejection, you can still go ahead with the treatment. In this case, you will need to pay the bills initially and can file for a reimbursement claim later
Discharge
If your cashless claim is approved, at the time of discharge, the insurance company will do the final settlement with the hospital and once that is sorted, you are good to go.
Reimbursement Claims
Inform the insurance company
For any planned treatments, you need to inform the insurance company 2 days before hospitalisation. In case of emergency, you can inform within 24 hours of admission. Insurance company will acknowledge the intimation.
Hospitalization
You need to submit a insurance claim form along with original copies of hospital bills, doctor consultation reports, and diagonstic reports.
File the claim
Within 30 days post discharge, you can initiate the claim online or at any of the registered offices of the insurance company. You need to fill a claim form and attach all the reports and bills.
Insurer’s decision
Based on the claim form and submitted documents, insurance company will settle the claims as per policy terms and conditions.
ICICI Lombard Health Insurance Renewal
Firstly, if you’ve purchased the policy online, you’ll always receive an intimation e-mail from the insurer around 30 days before the renewal date. The e-mail will have a renewal link that will directly take you to the page where you can make the payment and check policy details. And it’s done. You’ll receive the policy document via e-mail.
However, in case you choose to do it on your own, here’s what you need to do:
Visit the website
Visit the ICICI Lombard website and then go to the Renewal section here.
Enter details
You’d be asked to provide your current policy number which you can find in the policy soft copy. You may as well be asked to enter your mobile number, email ID, Date of Birth or policy expiry date.
Review and edit the policy details
Next, you’ll be able to see details of your new policy and the renewal premium you need to pay. Also, you’ll be given the option to make some changes related to sum insured, existing covered members, etc.
Complete the payment and it’s done
Once you confirm the details, you’ll be directed to the payment gateway. Once the payment is complete, you’ll receive your new policy soft copy via e-mail.
Few things to consider when renewing your ICICI Lombard health insurance policy
- If you want to increase your Sum Insured, now is the time. You can’t do it anytime during the year.
- If you didn’t make a claim in the past year, make sure you have been given a no-claim bonus if your policy offers it.
- If you want to add members like your spouse or kids, you have the option to do so only at the time of renewal. So do give this a thought.
